If you are tired of looking fatigued or feel as is you wear a constant frown, then you may be a candidate for a forehead lift. When the forehead skin is elevated, a tired and sad look may disappear completely, and often the entire face brightens up.
A forehead or browlift is designed to revitalize drooping eyebrows and smooth out forehead wrinkles. The forehead lift is a means of elevating the skin and muscles of the forehead to reset the brow position to a higher more rejuvenated position. This is appropriate for both men and woman. Albany Facial Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Falk's preference is to perform endoscopic browlift suspension. This is accomplished using telescopes and minimal incisions placed behind the hairline. Alternatives include open forehead lifts, which require an incision behind the natural hairline or suture suspension brow lifting which is less well studied. An endoscopic midface lift, which suspends the cheek mounds utilizing the same incisions is frequently combined with a forehead lift.
Good overall health and realistic expectation are prerequisite for all elective surgery, and these factors along with others will be discussed at the time of consultation. Dr. Falk will analyze your facial structures paying careful attention to the condition of your skin, position of your brows and height of your hairline. Photos are taken as a point of consultation and documentation. The details of these procedures and what might best suit your needs will be discussed at the time of consultation.
Surgery on the forehead can be performed under either general or twilight anesthesia. A general outline of the endoscopic brow lift is as follows. Preoperative markings are performed. Several small incisions are made behind the hairline through which scalp tissue is elevated and telescopes can be introduced. The scalp tissue is freed up to the level of the brow and the tissues are advanced. Sometimes muscles contributing to frowning are partially disrupted. The elevated position of the brow is held secure with sutures. Incisions are closed and a pressure dressing is applied.
It is common to experience some swelling and bruising after surgery. You will be instructed to keep your head elevated and cold compresses will be placed on your forehead. You may experience some numbness or tingling which will gradually disappear. The sutures are removed within ten days following surgery. If bandages are removed they are removed within seven to ten days after surgery. For many patients, the recovery is two weeks but may be longer. Prolonged bruising can be camouflage with makeup.
