Carbon dioxide (CO2) fractional laser resurfacing is the newest and most advanced laser skin resurfacing technology available. It takes advantage of the CO2 wavelength, which is the industry standard for wrinkle reduction, skin tightening, and scar treatments, but packages it in a far more patient-friendly way. The older method of laser resurfacing using the CO2 laser to peel the entire face all at once was associated with a high risk of skin discoloration, prolonged redness, and scarring. Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing, which is a partial peeling method, is a significant advancement over this older technique with a shorter recovery, while providing many of the same benefits for your skin. Ablative CO2 Fractional Laser Resurfacing complements Fraxel-Re-Store™, our nonablative fractional technology, for those individuals who can tolerate a little more down time and have more substantial skin issues.
In this procedure, the laser beam is broken up into a set of tiny micro beams determined by a computer generated pattern. Because there are many small laser beams hitting your skin, there are areas in between the beams not affected by the laser. These untreated areas facilitate a much quicker recovery than you would experience if the laser hit your skin in one concentrated beam. As a result, you will have a significantly smaller risk of complications associated with the procedure.
CO2 fractional laser resurfacing promotes skin rejuvenation by stimulating production of new collagen in the laser-treated areas. As a result, your skin will appear much smoother in a short period of time.
