Photofacials/Powerfacials with LEVULAN™

We are delighted to offer this wonderful non-invasive technology which has been sweeping the nation by storm. Photofacial treatments are accomplished utilizing specialized light sources which are not exactly lasers, but operate according to the same basic principles. Photofacial treatments target red and brown imperfections in the skin resulting in their gradual disappearance. Improvement in skin tone, texture and fine lines is also experienced. We utilize the Palomar ™ Starlux, intense pulse light device. Palomar is an industry leader in light based technology and their machines have an excellent efficacy and safety profile. A series of treatments, ranging between three to five sessions is recommended. These individual treatments are scheduled four weeks apart and are often combined with complimentary, no down time procedures such as microdermabrasion. Photofacials are associated with minimal discomfort, sometimes described as a mild rubber band like snap. Individuals experience darkening of their pigmented lesions over a period of one week which then fade away. Vascular lesions simply disappear or get smaller with each treatment.

A powerfacial is like a combination of a photofacial and a super selective chemical peel combined in to one treatment. A prescription topical medication (Levulan) is applied to the skin which gets absorbed preferentially into skin cells which are metabolically very active. Generally, these are unhealthy or damaged precancerous skin cells. Then, the photofacial treatment is performed. The light from the photofacial treatment reacts with the previously applied medication that accumulates in unhealthy cells leading to their destruction. The result is enhanced rejuvenation of the skin through elimination of superficial surface textural irregularities. It is certainly an added benefit for those seeking a bit more rejuvenation, and is also indicated for treatment of actinic keratosis.
