Procedure

The procedure is performed in either the office setting or operating room depending on what additional procedures are being performed. When done in the office, local infiltration anesthetics, and mild oral sedation is all that is necessary for patient comfort. Small volumes of a patient’s own fat is harvested from the flank or abdomen with tiny cannulas. The fat is processed and then injected with a small needle into areas of soft tissue deficiency. Typically, more than one session is necessary, and subsequent sessions are separated by several months.

Recovery

It is common to experience some swelling and mild discoloration to the skin after the procedure. This selling is most intense the first week. The lips in particular may experience swelling.
