The Center for Facial Plastic Surgery and Laser Skin Care offers Omnilux™ light therapy treatment to all of our Albany plastic surgery patients. Omnilux™ is one of the most advanced light therapy treatments on the market today.

What is Omnilux?

After 12 years of medical research, Photo Therapeutics, Ltd. released their line of Omnilux™ products on the U.S. market. Omnilux™ uses narrowband Light-emitting Diodes (LEDs) to treat a variety of dermatological conditions, including:

• Acne
• Skin rejuvenation
• Scarring
• Rosacea
• Non-melanoma skin cancer
• Hair restorations
• Wound healing

Omnilux™ makes several treatment heads to deliver specialized, pure narrowband light to the treatment area. Albany plastic surgeon Dr. Arthur Falk uses the Omnilux revive™ and Omnilux blue™ treatment heads with his patients.

Omnilux Revive™

The Omnilux™ revive is typically used for skin rejuvenation procedures. When combined with Omnilux blue™ treatment, it is an excellent option for clearing up acne.

Omnilux revive™ uses a 633 nm wavelength of light to stimulate cellular mechanisms that facilitate tissue repair and regeneration. The precision Omnilux™ system guarantees that the right light dose will be delivered to your tissue and the right intensity will be used so that your tissue responds properly.

Omnilux Blue™

Omnilux blue™ is a highly effective treatment for acne issues. It utilizes a matrix of LEDs, which provide blue light treatment to the affected skin region. No UV, IR, or inappropriate visible radiation is delivered during your treatment. Dr. Falk can shape the light to the contour of your treatment region in order to more effectively administer your light therapy.

Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer Treatment with Omnilux

Omnilux™ provides a highly effective and very safe treatment method for non-melanoma skin cancer. Your Omnilux™ treatment will be combined with a topically applied photosensitizer drug such as Levulan (ALA) to deliver photodynamic therapy (PDT) to the affected skin region. The photosensitizer drug will be applied to the lesion and covered for 3-4 hours before your Omnilux™ treatment begins.

The photosensitizer will help aid in cell death and tumor deconstruction. The Omnilux™ therapy enables Dr. Falk to target only the region where your non-melanoma skin cancer is present. The light therapy stimulates your body’s repair mechanisms to augment the healing process. The narrowband light therapy used by Omnilux™ eliminates harmful wavelengths of light which may be hazardous to your skin. This PDT treatment if much safer than cryotherapy, surgery, and radiotherapy because surrounding skin remains intact and functional. Unlike radiotherapy and chemotherapy, you will not be exposed to toxic chemicals or radiation during your treatment.

The Treatment

You will receive biweekly LED light treatments for eight weeks. There is no pain with the procedure. You will remove all makeup and wash you face with our cleanser. Then, you will be given safety goggles that are worn during the treatment. The light is positioned close to your face and will be on for 20 minutes. We recommend that you bring an ipod to listen to during the procedure. You may be prescribed additional facial products to help with your treatment.
